Tuesday, November 12, 2024

Bird Marella associate Christopher Jumin Lee is featured in The Korea Times, the oldest English-language daily newspaper in Korea, in a recent article discussing the enactment of anti-discrimination legislation.

The article explains that despite its advancement in many fields and global cultural influence, South Korea is one of very few liberal democracies without a “comprehensive anti-discrimination law” despite widespread support for proposed legislation.  Mr. Lee is credited in the article for emphasizing the theory of “regulatory capture” or the “theory of economic regulation,” which demonstrates how a vocal minority obstructs the desires of the majority.

In his widely read book, Why Anti-Discrimination Law?, Mr. Lee examines anti-discrimination legislation in South Korea. The book has been cited by the author of the comprehensive anti-discrimination bill pending in South Korea’s National Assembly. An outspoken advocate for various causes, Mr. Lee maintains an active pro bono practice and is the recipient of the ACLU’s Humanitarian Award for his successful efforts in pro bono litigation.
