Bird Marella partners Timothy Yoo and Christopher Jumin Lee obtained another victory on behalf of South Korean media company SBS in a long-running copyright dispute concerning the works of South Korean composer Jae-Ho Lee.
On summary judgment, Bird Marella argued that the Court could grant judgment in its favor without trial, as Plaintiff had failed to produce sufficient evidence to demonstrate that the DVDs that he alleged infringed on his copyright were produced by SBS International, SBS’s US subsidiary. On June 16, 2025, the Honorable Mark C. Scarsi granted summary judgment, finding that Bird Marella had sufficiently demonstrated that no reasonable jury could rule in Plaintiff’s favor.
Mr. Yoo and Mr. Lee had previously obtained dismissal for several other South Korean companies in this matter, including SBS, MBC, MBN, and IBK. With this summary judgment victory, all five of the companies defended by Bird Marella in this matter have prevailed without the need for trial.
