Bird Marella partner Kimberly Meyer provided legal analysis on the “fair use” of copyrighted material to Page Six in their profile of an anonymous entrepreneur who is funding a startup that aims to expose IP infringement and piracy in AI image and video generators.
In the article, Ms. Meyer shared, “The use of copyrighted material in training data is likely fair use, but there can be exceptions depending on various other facts.” She believes that these legal disputes over what is considered “fair use” will continue “[u]nless we have a really big overhaul of the system.”
