Bird Marella is proud to announce that former federal prosecutor Alexander H. Tran has returned to the firm as counsel. Mr. Tran has nearly a decade of legal experience defending clients facing government enforcement actions and investigations. In addition, he has extensive experience representing corporations and financial institutions in securities litigation, mergers and acquisitions-related litigation, multi-state products liability class actions, and general commercial civil litigation.
Mr. Tran most recently served as an Assistant United States Attorney at the U.S. Attorney’s Office (USAO) for the Central District of California where he investigated and prosecuted federal criminal cases involving wire, bank, and tax fraud, money laundering, violent crimes, and drug offenses. During his time at the USAO, he successfully secured convictions on all counts in a jury trial involving five related armed robberies, obtained a guilty plea from a money launderer for unlicensed money remitting that involved over $25 million, and obtained a guilty plea and a $1 million restitution award against a fraudulent tax preparer who was convicted of committing wire fraud against vulnerable victims in Los Angeles.

Mr. Tran earned his law degree from Columbia Law School and his bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Berkeley. He previously served as a law clerk at the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York and the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
