Bird Marella partner Timothy B. Yoo has again been recognized by the Daily Journal as a Top Intellectual Property Lawyer in California – his fourth honor in this category.
Mr. Yoo was selected for his distinguished client base, record of landmark successes in IP and technology disputes, and ability to quickly master complex technologies. In a career milestone, he previously secured a federal jury trial victory for SK hynix, the world’s largest memory chip company, in a nine-figure case against Microsoft.
As department lead of the firm’s IP and Korea Practices, Mr. Yoo represents Humax Co., Ltd., Korea’s largest OEM set-top box supplier, in a matter involving alleged infringement of port-triggering functionality. He is currently lead trial counsel for DIRECTV in a dispute involving conditional access technology to its satellite broadcast signals.
Mr. Yoo also currently represents the University of Southern California (USC) in a forthcoming patent trial against Google in Austin, Texas. The case involves patented technology for mapping 2D images onto 3D models (technology used in platforms such as Google Earth and Google Street View).
